James Barber - Senior Consultant & Founder

Chief Executive Officer

With over 50 years of experience in the insurance industry, Mr. Barber is a pioneer in the risk management consulting field with expertise in the formation and management of risk purchasing groups. Mr. Barber started his career in insurance as a file clerk at Farjeon, Ballin & Co, a Manhattan based insurance brokerage firm, rising to the position of Vice President and General Manager.

When Farjeon Ballin was sold, Mr. Barber moved to Long Island and joined the firm of Mollod and Berkowitz, where he functioned as a senior account executive and producer.

Mollod and Berkowitz was sold to Alexander & Alexander where Mr. Barber become one of their top producers, generating accounts such as Supermarket General Corp. (Pathmark), National Kinney Corp., and Warner Communications Inc., by using new and creative approaches to their risk management programs, that provided broader coverage, reduced cost, and more efficient administration.

Mr. Barber next became a corporate officer at Warner Communications, where he was responsible for risk management and employee benefits. One of his first tasks was to consolidate the financing of employee benefit plans of the many operating companies of Warner without changing their individual benefit designs, ultimately saving the company almost $5,000,000.00 annually.

He then formed Employers Risk Management, Inc., where he served as President of that division. They provided services to the many joint ventures and partnerships that Warner entered into around the world.

He left Warner to form RMI Consulting Inc., which grew into the largest independently owned risk management consulting firm and, for three years before selling to a venture capital firm, was voted the best risk management consulting firm by the readers of Business Insurance.

He bought part of his company back when the venture capital firm sold the business they had consolidated to a large public insurance broker. Since then the company has been operating as Risk Management International Limited.
